This past Saturday I went to the Art Car Museum with Urban Sketchers Houston . We had a special guest from Barcelona, the artist, illustrator and Urban Sketcher Lapin. He was in town visiting family and hooked up with us to draw on WorldWideSketchCrawl Day. Read More
I participated in an art journal workshop last month called 30 Pages/30 Days. It was quite fun and helped reinforce the importance of a daily art practice. The drawing above is from Day 25.
“Ain’t No Wifey” was drawn in a Strathmore watercolor book. The inspiration for this drawing came from Sktchy. The sweet face, the leopard print coat, the hat and the cool little Vans shoes hooked me and I had to draw her. The foreshortening at this angle is tricky! Most of the line work was done with waterproof ink, and then I re-stated some of the marks with water-soluble ink where I wanted it to bleed. I created the tones and washes with a water brush loaded with coffee.
The day 20 prompt for Inktober was “deep”. I went with Sktchy for inspiration today. This was one of their curated suggestions for deep, as in deep in thought.
The Inktober prompt was “cloud” for day 19. I really didn’t want to draw an actual cloud so instead thought about song lyrics. The Rolling Stones “Get off of my cloud” was what came to mind.
“Bow to the Queen of Slime, the Queen of FILTH, the Queen of Putrescence!”
The Inktober Day 18 prompt was “filthy”. Yeah, I changed the word slightly. This is the old hag in Buttercup’s nightmare who “boo’s” her. Read More
I am determined to catch up on my Inktober drawings and posts this weekend. The prompt for day 17 was “graceful” and I chose Princess Buttercup on horseback in The Princess Bride. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you want and you just have to call it done and move on.
Your feed will be flooded with my other catching up posts later today. Three other Inktober drawing’s are complete and not yet posted, and another will be done this afternoon. That is the plan, anyway!
Day 13 of the Inktober drawing challenge is here and the prompt is “teeming”. This scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom certainly fits the bill, though the creepy crawlies are hidden in darkness and merely suggested by the crunching sound.
Short Round: “It feels like I step on fortune cookies.”
Jones: “It’s not fortune cookies…” Read More
