1937 Morris Sketch

Ink, 6″ x 9″
This is a 1937 Morris, a car make I had never heard of until seeing this one. They were a British car manufacturer and were the creator of the Mini. The owner of this car drives it nearly every day, as long as it’s not raining.
It has a top but he likes the way it looks without it. I do, too.
The drawing is in a Strathmore mixed media sketchbook and drawn with 2 Pilot parallel pens; one pen with waterproof ink and one with water-soluble ink. When I’m done drawing I push the water-soluble ink around with a wet brush to create shadows and tone and spatter.
I made this drawing a couple of weeks ago. I had gone to a neighborhood restaurant and shopping area to do some sketching. My intent was to draw the fountains and people in the plaza, but I ran into the owner of the Morris and another classic car owner who were meeting up to have breakfast and chat about cars. I set up behind the Morris to draw and the owner captured a shot of me.

Drawing on location.
The yellow and black car in this picture is a 1948 Bentley. I’ll have more about that car another day.
love this!
