Ink Sketch, Darby

Ink, gouache, 5″x8″.

A drawing of Darby I did this morning, working from a photo on my phone.  The pen is a new one I started playing with: Sakura Micron fine liner.  I’ve been wanting to try these for a while, as a few artists I follow talk about them frequently.  My interest in them is how the ink behaves on top of gouache and acrylic paint/ polymer, and their water resistance.  Some inks just won’t dry on top, but these seem to do just fine over the gouache.

  1. Lovely drawing. I’ve heard of a lot of people liking these pens.

    • Thank you, Craig! I’m digging them so far, so add me to that list of people.

  2. Lovely drawing indeed, and great linework! As for pens, the Sakura Microns are very versatile and the ink holds up well to washes as also on top of a good variety of surfaces.

    • Thanks, Jason. I like the pens so far, and tried out a similar pen by Kuretake. When I tried them on top of acrylics they needed a few hours to set up, but in the end were water resistant when fully dry. Exactly what I hoped for.

Really nice. I can’t seem to stop looking at it. Your talent is so enviable. (sigh)
